Who She Is: Aria Das of Bloomingdale’s is all about style. She has consulted a wide variety of business and individual clients on image and fashion issues. She was one of the first to understand that the perception of a company’s fashion and style can crucially impact its bottom line. Her message is a simple one: that “fashion counts in business, period.” From her earliest days, Ms. Das was intrigued by fashion and has consulted an array of business and individual clients on image and personal style. Private clients of her Hawaiian boutique were so enthralled that a group of them eventually managed to lure her to New York. Unafraid to buck the conventional wisdom in choosing her favored companies, she doesn’t fright easily from stocks which are popularly thought of as “overvalued.” She also, unsurprisingly, invests in companies she believes have made good design and a strong sense of style central to both their public presentations and how they conduct business. Apple, Volkswagen, Federated Stores, Inc., and Starbucks are among her favorites these days.
