A waitress at Harry Cipriani restaurant at the Sherry-Netherland hotel on Fifth Avenue is suing the restaurant and its owners, Arrigo and Giuseppe Cipriani, for sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed yesterday in New York State Supreme Court.
The suit, filed by Lastenia Amparo Torres, alleges male colleagues call female employees derogatory names and exude a general hostility toward them and that repeated complaints made from the workers’ union to management have gone unacknowledged.
A spokesman for Cipriani’s, Chris Giglio, said he could not comment because he had not seen the lawsuit. “However, Cipriani has had very strict anti-discrimination and sexual harassment policies for years, and we enforce them fully,” Mr. Giglio said.
