CRACKERS AND COLLAGES
Roger Rothstein displays collages, Etcha-Sketch portraits, and sculpture in “Cultural Residue,” an exhibit closing this weekend. Many of Mr. Rothstein’s works refer to commercial detritus – some are even constructed from it. “Temple of Snack Food” is an architectural model made of Pringles potato chips, Saltine and Oysterette crackers, Nabisco Snack-Well’s cookies, and other carbohydrate-rich goodies. In “Bird with Coke Can” (2004), a detail of which is at left, a tiny can of Coca-Cola is nestled in what looks like a traditional Chinese silk collage. A detail of “Marlboro Lights/Fish Among Lotus Leaves” (2005) is above. Other collages contain a bottle of Tide detergent, an Almond Joy candy bar, and Kodak film. Through Sunday, Thursday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Bond Gallery, 5 Rivington St., between the Bowery and Christie Street, 212-253-7600, free.
