LADIES OF LIFE Alan Klotz Gallery displays photographs taken for LIFE magazine by female photographers in “Women for LIFE.” The show includes selections from Margaret Bourke-White’s Depression-era photo essay “You Have Seen Their Faces,” Martha Holmes’s candid shots of Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart, and Nina Leen’s fashion photography. REFLECTING ON REFLECTION Artists and writers Julie Ault and Martin Beck curated the group exhibit “Mirage” at Alexander and Bonin. The exhibit’s title comes from a passage of John C.Van Dyke’s 1901 book “The Desert” describing mirages in the deserts of the American Southwest. Works on view, which explore literal and metaphorical reflection, include photography and a wide variety of sculpture. LONG ISLAND LOLITAS A selection of Joseph Szabo’s photographs taken while he was a high-school teacher on Long Island are on display at Gitterman Gallery. The black-and-white photos in “Teenage” capture kisses at school dances, cigarettes on the boardwalk, and clusters of teenagers preening on the beach.
