BEAT DOWN

For her new performance piece “Beat It,” artist Erin McMonagle conducts drop-in workshops on the choreography from the 1983 Michael Jackson video of the same name. After a series of workshops, a final event invites anyone who wants to show off their new skills to participate in a large group performance. Through Monday, Friday, noon-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Chashama, 217 E. 42nd St., between Second and Third avenues, 212-391-8152, free.

BAILAMOS!

Dance coaches Danel and Maria – like their former student, Madonna, they go by one name only – head up a late-night party of Argentine tangos, milongas, valses, and Latin musica tropical. Before the party, the pair conducts a workshop open to all skill levels. Raul Jaurena and the New York Tango Trio offer live music (10 p.m. onward). Saturday, 8 p.m.-2 a.m., 92nd Street Y, 1395 Lexington Ave. at 92nd Street, 212-415-5500, $15. Note: Jackets are required for men.

To submit an event for consideration for the Calendar, please wire the particulars to calendar@nysun.com, placing the date of the event in the subject line.
