ONCE UPON A TIME … The Hans Christian Andersen Storytelling Committee presents “Almost All Andersen: Storytelling 2005,” a series held in Central Park for children 5 and up. In this weekend’s installment, Margaret Dawson reads “The Sweethearts” and Antonio Sacre reads “The Marsh King.” Saturday, 11 a.m.-noon, Central Park, at the statue of Hans Christian Andersen, 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue, 609-896-1792, free.


TILE TIME Children between ages 4 and 16 can make an homage to subway-station art at an afternoon workshop in ceramic-tile mosaics. Saturday, 1 p.m., New York Transit Museum, Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, 718-694-1600, free with admission, $5 general, $3 seniors and children under 17.


FLUTTER BY Visitors to Wave Hill can enjoy an afternoon with the garden’s butterflies at “Flutter With the Butterflies,” an afternoon art workshop that includes sketch sessions and craft activities. (Saturday and Sunday, 1-4 p.m., Wave Hill, Kerling Learning Center, 675 W. 252nd St. at Independence Avenue, Bronx, 718-549-3200, free with admission, $4 general, $2 seniors and students, free for children under 6.) For other Bronx butterfly fun, the butterfly garden at the Bronx Zoo is stocked with more than 1,000 specimens. (Through October, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Bronx Zoo, Bronx River Parkway and Fordham Road, Bronx, 718-367-1010, $3 in addition to zoo admission, $11 general, $8 seniors and children under 12, free for babies.)


STRAW INTO GOLD The 13th Street Repertory Company presents the children’s musical “Rumple Who?” It’s based on the fairy tale “Rumplestiltskin,” about a poor young maiden who receives help turning straw into gold from a devious little man. The play is intended for families with children ages 5 and above. Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m., 13th Street Repertory Company, 50 W. 13th St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues, 212-675-6677, $7, reservations recommended.
