THE BIG DANCE The documentary “The World’s Best Prom” delves into the decadent high-school dance rituals of Racine, Wis. Each spring, students ride elephants and 18-wheelers through the town’s streets and arrive on a red carpet at the dance, which is shown on live television. The film was made by the arts collective OVO. Tonight, 7 p.m., Two Boots Pioneer Theater, 155 E. 3rd St., between avenues A and B, 212-591-0434, $9 general, $6.50 members.
SHORTS WITH SOUNDTRACKS A program of short films showcases soundtracks by new-music composers Steve Reich and Terry Riley.The screening, which features several rarely seen films, includes a 1965 short starring members of the San Francisco Mime Troupe.
