HALF-SHELL HOOPLA The two-day Oyster Frenzy is a feast featuring 15 varieties of oysters and 25 different wines (Friday and Saturday, 7-9 p.m., $80). Other events include a professional oyster shucking competition (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and an oyster “slurp-off.” (Saturday, inbetween rounds of the shucking competition). IN A PICKLE The New York Food Museum presents the fifth International Pickle Day festival, featuring kosher and kimchi pickle samples, home canning demonstrations, and preserves of radishes, tomatoes, okra, cabbage, fish, meat, carrots, and beets. Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Orchard Street between Houston and Stanton streets, 212-226-9010, free.
SPICE IT UP The Brooklyn Botanic Garden presents a Chile Pepper Fiesta, with discussions about the art of Mexican cooking, samples of award-winning hot sauces, and music by African-American drum ensembles. Sunday, noon-6 p.m., 1000 Washington Ave., between Eastern Parkway and Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-623-7200, $5 general, $3 seniors and students, free for members and children under 16.
