BROOKLYN CHAMBER The Brooklyn Chamber Music Society performs a program that includes Haydn’s Piano Trio in E Minor, songs from Berlioz’s “Les Nuits d’Ete,” and George Crumb’s Sonata for Solo Cello. Friday, 8 p.m., First Unitarian Church, Pierrepont Street and Monroe Place, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, 718-858-0718, $30.


AROUND THE BLOC Two Eastern European tribute bands perform in a program co-sponsored by the Czech Center and by Zlata Praha Restaurant in Astoria. The Backwards, a band that pays homage to the Beatles, hails from Slovakia. It’s joined by the self-explanatory Elvis Presley Revival Band, from the Czech Republic. Saturday, 8 p.m., Martin Luther King Auditorium, 122 Amsterdam Ave. at 65th Street, 718-721-6422, $25-$45.


MAIN THINGS Young composer Nico Muhly set three Walt Whitman texts to music in “Expecting the Main Things From You,” a piece for string quartet, percussion, choir, and organ. At the composition’s premiere, the Chiara Quartet performs Shostakovich’s 8th String Quartet. Mr. Muhly graduated from Columbia University in 2003 with a degree in English. By the next year, he had his master’s degree from Juilliard, had orchestrated the movie “The Manchurian Candidate,” and played on Bjork’s album “Medulla.” Sunday, 7:30 p.m., Central Synagogue, 123 E. 55th St. at Lexington Avenue, 212-219-2270 for information, 212-868-4444 for tickets, $20 and $30.


HEART SONGS Soprano Renee Fleming and jazz pianist Fred Hersch perform at a benefit for Joe’s Pub’s spring programming. Ms. Fleming performs songs from her upcoming album, “Haunted Heart.” A dessert reception with the performers follows. Thursday, 9 p.m. doors open, 9:30 p.m. performance, Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St., between East 4th Street and Astor Place, 212-539-8770 for information, 212-239-6200 for tickets, $200 lounge seats, $225 table seats, tickets include one drink.
