COLORFUL COMPOSITIONS The Society for Chromatic Art is a musical ensemble devoted to classics of the 20th and 21st centuries and new works by emerging composers. Flutist John McMurtery and pianist Ashlee Mack will perform the compositions by group cofounders Edward Taylor and James Romig as well as works by the winners of the society’s “Call for Scores.” Tonight, 8 p.m., Christ and St. Stephen’s Church, 120 W. 69th St., between Columbus Avenue and Broadway, 212-787-2755, free.
MIXED-UP ZAPPA The Ed Palermo Big Band plays the music of Frank Zappa using traditional big-band instruments to reinterpret Zappa’s large canon of kooky songs. Tomorrow, 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Iridium Jazz Club, 1650 Broadway at 51st Street, 212-582-2121, $22.50 general, $10 minimum at tables, $5 minimum at the bar, half price for students at the door.
