VANGUARD TUNES The jazz-bop pianist Barry Harris begins a weeklong stint at the Vanguard, playing with bassist Earl May and drummer Leroy Williams. STREET PERFORMANCE The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra performs in celebration of the naming of a street corner, at 88th Street and West End Avenue, after O’Farrill. The bandleader, composer, and architect of the Afro-Cuban sound died in 2001. Wynton Marsalis is a featured guest. LONG NIGHT The New York band Longwave performs downtown, riding the long wave of Strokes-inspired rockers. Longwave opened for the Strokes on their first tour, and their new album “There’s a Fire” echoes the other band’s latest, “Room on Fire.” Tomorrow, 8 p.m. doors open, Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. at Bowery, 212-533-2111, $15. CHAMBER AT CARAMOOR The trio Worlds Beyond – composed of saxophonist Daniel Schnyder, bass trombonist David Taylor, and pianist Kenny Drew Jr. – inaugurates the innovative new classical music series Extreme Chamber Music at the 60th annual Caramoor Music Festival. The program includes music by Mr. Schnyder, Kurt Weill, and George Gershwin. The series will also feature Paquito D’Rivera exploring the Cuban tradition (Friday, July 29), and the Shanghai Quartet with Xu Ke on erhu (Friday, August 5).
