DOCTOR ON EVEREST Micro-surgeon Ken Kamler tells tales from a harrowing trip to Mount Everest in 1996, when he was the only doctor on a mission that took a disastrous turn. Dr. Kamler has been on six expeditions to Mount Everest, and is the author of “Surviving the Extremes” (St. Martin’s Press).The talk is presented in part by the New York chapter of the American Alpine Club. PHOTOS AND THE PRESS The British publisher of “Things as They Are: Photojournalism in Context Since 1955,” Chris Boot,moderates a panel that includes the book’s author,Mary Panzer; photographer Susan Meiselas, and photojournalists Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, among others. The discussion, “Photojournalism and Its Discontents,” covers the history, present, and future of photography in the press. The book was published in America last month by Aperture.
