POET AND PRESIDENT A new opera by Damon Ferrante and Daniel Mark Epstein, “Jefferson and Poe,” imagines what happens when a young Edgar Allan Poe falls in love with Thomas Jefferson’s illegitimate daughter. The romantic comedy finds the poet plotting to make the president set his beloved free. STAGED SONGS The musical comedy “Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi” is performed as a staged concert as part of the “Musicals in Mufti” series. Lynne Taylor-Corbett directs the performances, which are a production of the York Theatre Company. Friday, 8 p.m., Saturday, 2:30 and 8 p.m., Sunday, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., Saint Peter’s Theatre, 54th Street near Lexington Avenue, 212-868-4444, $40.
