Christiane Amanpour Calls For ‘Truthfulness’ as She Resigns From CNN After Herself Misleading Viewers

Christiane Amanpour, one of CNN’s most recognizable faces for more than four decades, announced Monday that she is leaving the network after 43 years. The 68-year-old journalist said she will remain at CNN until next June.“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” Ms. Amanpour said in a statement. She added that she “looks forward to interesting new projects down the line, and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism. Remember: always be truthful, not neutral.”Ms. Amanpour rose to prominence covering the Bosnian War in the 1990s, a period that also marked the beginning of sustained criticism over her reporting methods. Colleagues and media watchdogs have long accused her of abandoning journalistic neutrality in favor of advocacy. An unnamed CNN insider told The New York Times at the time that Ms. Amanpour had declared on air that Serbs had “probably” carried out the 1994 Markale marketplace bombing — a claim later disputed by a United Nations-classified report that pointed instead to Bosnian Muslim forces.
