Not Anti-War, Anti-Freedom

The New York City Council is preparing to say “go to hell” to the people of Iraq, who are yearning to be liberated by America from Saddam Hussein’s tyranny. Also to the people of Israel, who are threatened every day by the Iraqi dictator’s stash of missiles and chemical weapons. Also to the people of New York, who are similarly threatened by Saddam’s biological warfare capabilities. The “anti-war” resolution before the council seems to be delayed, at least for the moment, thanks to a blessed outbreak of sanity among such council members as David Weprin, Eric Gioia, and Domenic Recchia. The thing for the Council members to remember about this resolution is that while it goes under the guise of anti-war, the effect for millions of Iraqis will be anti-freedom. Given what we’re learning about the links between Saddam and Al Qaeda, this resolution, if passed, would be a betrayal of the memory of those killed on September 11, 2001. It would stain the Council for generations.
