On Super Bowl Sunday, local dining and snacking options — for football fans, or for those just enjoying the big-budget commercials — are plentiful. A bevy of city restaurants are offering specials in honor of the de facto national holiday.
Wings can be had for 25 cents apiece at Hudson River Cafe (697 W. 133rd St. at Twelfth Avenue, 212-491-9111), but nachos are available, too, along with grilled skewered meats, mini cheeseburgers, pork chili, baby back ribs, and crispy spicy shrimp. All of which can be enjoyed on the new winterized patio.
Hill Country (30 W. 26th St., between Sixth Avenue and Broadway, 212-255-4544) is having its first annual Super Bowl Bash, complete with guacamole and chips, sausage skewers, pit-smoked wings, beef and pork ribs, assorted sliders, and such Tex-Mex specialties as queso dip and Frito pie.
Four flat-screen televisions and a free buffet are on hand at Obivia (201 Lafayette St., between Broome and Spring streets, 212-226-4904).
At Maxie’s Bar & Grill (233 Park Ave. S. at 19th Street, 212-979-7800), fans of the team that is losing get draft beers at half price, so everyone can be happy as they watch the game on one of eight plasma screens. No matter how your team is doing, you get half-price wings.
Los Dados (73 Gansevoort St., between Washington and Greenwich streets, 646-810-7290) is offering a special $20 package for a minimum of four people, to eat in the restaurant or for delivery. It includes two starters, two types of tacos, flour and corn tortillas, black beans, white rice, pico de gallo, Romaine lettuce, pickled serrano peppers, and guava and cheese empanadas.
For fans looking for an organic and vegetarian Super Bowl Sunday, Counter (105 First Ave., between 6th and 7th streets, 212-982-5870) is offering Super Bowl-inspired drinks. Seriously. All of the drinks are infusions made with Rain vodka, which is distilled from organic corn. “The Bruschetta” is infused with cherry tomato, basil, and garlic. “The Cucumber Salsa” uses cucumber, red pepper, and cilantro. The “Nachos” cocktail features an infusion of corn and jalapeño. A flight of all three is $15. For those looking for a sober Super Bowl, Counter also is offering guacamole with pomegranate, jicama salsa, and vegetarian chili.
Rosa Mexicano (61 Columbus Ave. at 62nd Street, 212-977-7700; 1063 First Ave. at 58th Street, 212-753-7407, and 9 E. 18th St., between Fifth Avenue and Broadway, 212-533-3350) is accepting orders for “Guac to Go” kits at its Web site, www.rosamexicano.info, through Friday at 4 p.m. After that, you can contact any of the Rosa Mexicano locations by telephone to get guacamole for five, 10, 15, or 20 people, along with salsas (one jar of tomato-chipotle and one of salsa verde for five people, and an extra jar of a different flavor for every five people after that), tortilla chips, and fresh corn tortillas. The price is $36.95 for five, $67.95 for 10, $90.95 for 15, and $109.95 for 20.
Both Ruby Foo locations (1626 Broadway at 49th Street, 212-489-5600, and 2182 Broadway at 77th Street, 212-724-6700) are offering Super Bowl specials, including Mongolian barbecue pork “quesadillas” on scallion pancakes for $7, boneless chicken “claws” with spicy peanut sauce for $8, and Peking duck nachos for $8.
All three Dos Caminos locations (373 Park Ave. S., between 26th and 27th streets, 212-294-100; , 825 Third Ave., at 50th Street, 212-336-5400, and 475 West Broadway at Houston, 212-277-4300) are serving wings, guacamole with pork rinds, smokedchicken nachos, bacon-wrapped cheddar-stuffed hot dogs with pickled jalapeños, and a trio of Mexican sliders for $8.
At Primehouse (381 Park Ave. S. at 27th Street, 212-8240-2600), the flat-screen TVs in the bar area will be tuned to the game, and a 12-ounce Super Bowl of chili, with sour cream, aged sharp cheddar cheese, and green onions, will be available for $16.
