Germany and Italy are Europe’s largest manufacturing powers. And they are both export-oriented giants.“Italy and Germany are teaming up to draft a new game plan to revive EU industry,” reported Politico, “and expand exports in a joint position paper” ahead of a European Council summit on February 12. Rome and Berlin, Politico adds, “style themselves as the ‘two main industrial European nations’ and have condemned delays to the Mercosur agreement.”Signora Meloni’s astute governance and worldview align with Herr Merz’s priorities. If Italy’s premier has met her carpe diem moment, it would seem the future will be kind to the West because Giorgia Meloni is writing it.
