‘He Has Gone Insane’: Expletive-Laden Iran Post From Trump on Easter Sunday Prompts Shock, Dismay

After President Trump demanded in a social media post that Iran “Open the F****n’” Strait of Hormuz, some are sounding alarm about what is to come in the Iran war. Even Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who levied significant criticism against the president, says he has now gone “insane.”Mr. Trump sent out his warning to Iran early Sunday morning, warning the country’s leaders that he will begin bombing critical infrastructure on Tuesday if they do not make a deal with him to reopen the strait within the next 48 hours. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” Mr. Trump wrote in his screed. “Open the F****n’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”Mr. Trump first threatened Iran’s infrastructure last month, though he ultimately pushed back his deadline for Iran to make a deal with him. Now, he is suggesting that he will not be backing down. The president last week ordered the military to attack a bridge near Tehran which had been under construction. That strike left eight dead, according to local officials. In a lengthy message posted to X on Sunday, Ms. Greene expressed concern about Mr. Trump’s well-being. Up until Sunday, she had only complained about his inability to bring costs down, his decision to engage in conflicts abroad, and his lack of care for his own voters. “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshiping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness,” Ms. Greene, who resigned from Congress in January, wrote. “[H]e has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”“I’m not defending Iran but let’s be honest about all of this. The Strait is closed because the US and Israel started the unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades, that any moment Iran would develop a nuclear weapon,” she added. “Our President is not a Christian and his words and actions should not be supported by Christians,” Ms. Greene concluded, describing his threats to bomb infrastructure in Iran “evil.”Alex Jones, the far-right conspiracy theorist who has long supported Mr. Trump, said that the bombing of a bridge last week was a horrible action that represented a betrayal.“Imagine if Iran bombed and destroyed [destroyed] the Golden Gate Bridge in California. What would you call the act?” Mr. Jones asked rhetorically on X Sunday. “This will only unify the Iranian people against Israel and the United States. This is not what Trump ran on and this is not what we voted for.”In separate messages posted to Truth Social on Sunday, Mr. Trump announced that he would hold a press conference on Monday at one o’clock in the afternoon, and that he would give some kind of address on Tuesday night. Democrats were also quick to raise alarms about Mr. Trump’s post on Sunday morning, with one going so far as to urge members of the cabinet to start brushing up on the 25th Amendment, which gives the vice president and cabinet officers the ability to temporarily remove the president from power. “If I were in Trump’s Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment. This is completely, utterly unhinged. He’s already killed thousands. He’s going to kill thousands more,” Senator Chris Murphy wrote Sunday.Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been advising Mr. Trump on the Iran war, is perfectly happy with the president’s threats. In a statement posted to X on Sunday, Mr. Graham said Mr. Trump was “deadly serious” about his threats to use overwhelming force. “It is still my hope [that the] Strait of Hormuz can be reopened and the enriched uranium can be secured through diplomacy. That would be the best outcome for the region and the world. To say the window on diplomacy is closing would be an understatement.,” Mr. Graham wrote. “To Iran, [choose] wisely and [choose] quickly.”
