This weekend is a good one for antiquing. Today the four-day American Antiques Show opens on the seventh floor of the Time Warner Center’s North Tower, and tomorrow the Winter Antiques Show will open at the Seventh Regiment Armory on 67th Street and Park Avenue.
The American Antiques Show, which benefits the American Folk Art Museum, offers works of 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century folk art and Americana, presented by 47 dealers. Objects for sale will include quilts, folk portraits, country and Adirondack furniture, historic samplers, 19th-century paintings, and early 20th-century vintage photography. A variety of lectures and tours will be offered daily during the show.
The Winter Antiques Show, now in its 51st year, will bring together 75 exhibitors specializing in American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts. The show will also include a loan exhibition, “The New-York Historical Society Celebrates Two Centuries of Collecting.” The exhibit will include George Washington’s inaugural armchair, objects from the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman, and a collection of 18th-century silver. The show benefits East Side House Settlement, a social services organization in the Bronx.
