Pottery produced all over the world from 3,500 B.C. to the present day will be on display and for sale at the New York Ceramics Fair, opening January 19 at the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts.

Highlights of the fair, which is in its sixth year, include ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and early Islamic ceramics shown by New York City’s Royal-Athena Galleries. One stunning example is a gleaming Egyptian turquoise faience ushabti (funerary figure) of King Pinedjem II, dating from the 11th century B.C.

Parisian antique dealer Antoine Lebel will show a rare punch bowl of Chinese export porcelain, circa 1770, depicting journalist and politician John Wilkes, a champion of the free press, and his opponent, Lord Mansfield.

Contemporary ceramics will also be on display, including a jar by Turkish ceramics artist Adnan Hoca, presented by Iznick Classics of Istanbul.

As in previous years, the fair will also feature lectures by speakers such as Dean Walker, a senior curator from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which has loaned an exhibit of important American porcelain to the fair; Sally DeVille-Davies, a ceramics specialist from the BBC’s “Antiques Roadshow”; and famed glass artist Paul Stankard.

The New York Ceramics Fair, January 19-23 at the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts, 1083 Fifth Ave. Admission is $15; lecture tickets an additional $10. For more information, call 301-933-6994 or visit www.caskeylees.com.
