Iran Fires Missiles at Commercial Ships in Hormuz as Trump Warns He Could ‘Finish the Job’

Iran fired two missiles at commercial ships attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz as the regime warned the U.S. that negotiations won’t commence if President Trump’s threats continue. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were behind the missile attack on two vessels, according to Axios and Wall Street Journal, both citing U.S. officials. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) said it received a report of an incident about eight nautical miles east of Limah, Oman.“A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side causing a fire, whilst travelling southbound. No casualties or environmental impact reported. Authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity,” UKMTO said. Iran has repeatedly insisted that vessels coordinate their transits through the straight with the IRGC’s naval forces. The attacks came as Mr. Trump issued new threats against the regime. Speaking to reporters on Monday, the president said: “Look, we’re gonna win one way or the other. We are either going to make a deal or we’re going to finish the job, okay? And it won’t be tough to finish the job.” “I’d rather make a deal, because I don’t want to affect 91 million people. We can knock down their bridges in one hour. We can knock out their energy supply, all of those big plants that they built, big, beautiful, modern plants, they had a lot of money,” he said. The president added that the regime doesn’t “have any money now. We haven’t given them any money, but we can knock out their electricity and power-generating plants, and I would say that in a small part of an afternoon, every plant will be gone. And they know that. They know that.”Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reacted to Mr. Trump’s threats, saying: “Millions of proud Iranians rallied in unity to honor Grand Ayatollah Khamenei and his legacy. Neither them nor our Brave Armed Forces are moved by any threats.”“Para(graph) 13 of the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) is clear: Negotiations on final deal will not commence if threats continue. Honor your signature,” Mr. Araghchi added. Iran and the U.S. signed the MoU on June 17 which halted all attacks and gave both parties 60 days to negotiate a comprehensive deal. Iran has broken the agreement several times since by attacking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. retaliated by attacking coastal radar systems, air defense sites and drone storage facilities. Iran then fired missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation before the two sides agreed to adhere to the ceasefire again.
