Iranian Forces Using Schools as Military Bases, Eyewitness Says

Iranian regime forces are using schools as military bases, an Iranian eyewitness has told The New York Sun in an interview. Speaking on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, the Iranian man said he was afraid to even do the interview as it could get him killed: “I would get a death penalty if the regime finds out.”As Israel and America continue to pound the regime across the country, rumors have swirled about its forces being present at schools. Iran International reported earlier this week that the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations published an image of Iranian forces inside a schoolyard prior to the war, warning that classrooms were being turned into “shields for deadly equipment.”The Iranian eyewitness speaking to the Sun now claims that regime forces are also placed inside a school in the city of Shahrud some 400 km from Teheran.“Not far from where I live there is a school that the regime turned into a military base. I have seen this with my own eyes because the school is on my way to work,” he said. The Sun has not been able to verify the Iranian man’s claims since the regime has imposed a near total internet blackout across the country and has warned Iranians not to share photos of “sensitive” sites. The New York Sun has seen those text messages. Iran claims the Israeli and American attacks targeted a school in Minab which killed 175 people, including many children. A recent New York Times report suggested that the U.S. was behind the attack on the school which lies adjacent to an IRGC base. President Trump later blamed Iran for the attack: “We think it was done by Iran, because they’re very inaccurate, as you know, with their munitions. They have no accuracy whatsoever. It was done by Iran.”Despite the war intensifying, the Iranian man still goes to work every day. This despite Israeli fighter jets attacking an IRGC ballistic missile production site in the city this week. The Iranian said he heard the large explosions stemming from the attack. “I know the situation is very dangerous, even though they target the regime’s military,” he said. Many Iranians are “grateful” for the American-Israeli attacks against the regime, he said, adding that it’s just a matter of time before demonstrators will take to the streets again. “So I’m sure we are going to see another round of mass demonstrations across the country. Millions of people are going to turn up and they’re gonna finish off the regime. They will support the king,” he said, referring to the exiled Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi. “We are just waiting for Palahvi to tell us when to go on the streets and demonstrate again because he told us not to go outside now. It’s not safe while they are bombing the regime bases. As soon as he gives the green light we are all going out,” he said. U.S. CENTCOM also “strongly” urged civilians in Iran to stay at home: “The Iranian regime is knowingly endangering innocent lives.”“The Iranian regime is using heavily populated civilian areas to conduct military operations, including launching one-way attack drones and ballistic missiles. This dangerous decision risks the lives of all civilians in Iran since locations used for military purposes lose protected status and could become legitimate military targets under international law,” the CENTCOM statement added.
