As the Senate moves forward on confirming President Trump’s choice of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve, today’s report of the consumer price index suggests the scale of the inflation confronting the central bank’s next chairman. Prices in April rose 3.8 percent over the prior year, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the fastest pace since 2023, when the Biden wave of inflation was on the decline.
