Jack Schlossberg’s Campaign Sees Mounting Staff Turnover

Democratic influencer Jack Schlossberg may be leading in the polls for New York’s 12th District primary, though new reports of staff turnover raise questions about the stability of his campaign operation.Most recently, Politico reported the departure of Mr. Schlossberg’s field operations director, Cooper Barton, pointing to an update on his LinkedIn. The outlet also raised questions about whether the campaign’s director of operations, Eli Hinerfeld, remains on staff, noting that the campaign declined to respond to inquiries about his status. Mr. Schlossberg’s campaign has not responded to the Sun’s requests for comment on the turnover.The developments come just months after Mr. Schlossberg parted ways with his campaign manager, Annabell Lasally. Neither Ms. Lasally nor the campaign offered any explanation for the split, though the campaign said at the time: “We continue to grow post-launch as the only campaign with a plan focused on local issues and progressive policy” and “We will be announcing our new campaign headquarters very soon. It’s all systems go.” Mr. Schlossberg has also cycled through at least two political consulting firms, according to Politico.Despite the internal turbulence, new polling suggests that Mr. Schlossberg may have a real shot at becoming the next Kennedy elected to public office. An internal poll from Assemblymember Alex Bores, who is also vying for New York’s 12th Congressional District, shows Mr. Schlossberg leading with 22 percent of the vote, edging out Mr. Bores, a close second at 19 percent. Assemblymember Micah Lasher, a Nadler protégé who received the outgoing representative’s endorsement, trails at 14 percent. The largest share of respondents — 28 percent — remain undecided.The poll, conducted in mid-March, suggests Mr. Schlossberg’s early lead continues to hold. Two prior polls, from February and early March, put him at 23 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Voters will take to the polls for the primary in June. The primary has become a race to watch, drawing high-profile candidates and major donors. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg publicly endorsed Mr. Lasher in March and is reportedly prepared to spend millions to boost his campaign.Mr. Schlossberg, the 33-year-old grandson of President Kennedy, has built a following as a social media personality, amassing millions of followers across his main platforms. His content — much of which he has scrubbed since launching his campaign — has ranged from from shirtless selfies to ballet videos to inflammatory political commentary. Some of his more controversial posts, particularly those targeting Vice President Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, are now being recirculated.Also under scrutiny are Mr. Schlossberg’s positions on Israel. New York’s 12th ranks among the most heavily Jewish congressional districts in the country, yet the half-Jewish, half-Catholic Kennedy heir plans to skip at least two upcoming Jewish community forums next month, Jewish Insider first reported.Mr. Schlossberg has expressed more skepticism of the American-Israeli relationship than some of his fellow candidates, advocating for an end to American funding for offensive weapons to Israel amid the war in Gaza. Still, unlike some on the party’s far left, he has declined to call the war a genocide and has distanced himself from Mayor Mamdani’s pledge to arrest Prime Minister Netanyahu should he set foot in New York.
