Jimmy Kimmel Criticized as ‘Propagandist’ for Iran After Stating He Trusts the Ayatollah More Than Trump

ABC’s anti-Trump late-night host, Jimmy Kimmel, is now being accused of spreading Iranian propaganda for suggesting the supreme leader of Iran is more trustworthy than President Trump.During a segment of his monologue on Monday night, Mr. Kimmel mocked Mr. Trump’s statement that Iran had said the Strait of Hormuz was “fully open” and “ready for business.”“OK, that was Friday. Then on Saturday, Iran contradicted that moment of triumph, saying the strait was not open for business; it was closed for business. And that they had in no way agreed to hand over their uranium or any of the stuff. The statement was false,” the late-night host said. Mr. Kimmel said, “For those of us who grew up in the ‘80s, did you ever imagine you’d be more likely to believe the Ayatollah than the President of the United States?”He claimed that for “our whole lives the Strait of Hormuz has been so wide open, we didn’t even know it existed.”Mr. Kimmel was criticized for his comments. “Kimmel’s TDS HAS MADE HIM INTO [AN] ANTI-american useful idiot!” one user wrote on X.Another person said, “This Guy is a [expletive] IDIOT, Of course we trust President Trump 100%. Way more [than] the dead Ayatollah or a lying live secondary one, that’s a Stupid question.”“@ABC Jimmy Kimmel is spreading propaganda. To believe Iran over Trump. Mr. Kimmel has been a harsh critic of Mr. Trump’s war against Iran, and has repeatedly suggested that it is meant to distract Americans from the Epstein files. On Tuesday night, he continued to sow doubts about how truthful Mr. Trump has been about the war. “Last night, the president said it was highly unlikely he would extend the truce [unless Iran agreed to his terms],” Mr. Kimmel said. “That line in the sand was reinforced by his tweenage [sic] press secretary.”He played a clip of the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, telling Fox News that Mr. Trump “does not bluff” and that “when President Trump says he’s going to do something, he’s going to do it.”Mr. Kimmel quipped, “That’s right. [He] said he was going to end the war in Ukraine in one day. He said he’s going to release his tax returns, the new health care plan, the wall, Greenland. This is a man whose word is as good as the gold commode he sits on.”He then noted that Mr. Trump said on Tuesday that he had decided to extend the ceasefire with Iran until its leaders submit a “unified” peace proposal.“It is Taco Tuesday, so why not?” Mr. Kimmel said in reference to the phrase “Trump always chickens out.”While Mr. Kimmel mocked Mr. Trump for allegedly backing down, Axios reported that “one reason” the president decided to extend the ceasefire “is that the U.S. and Pakistani mediators have been waiting for Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to respond to the latest proposal and give a clear directive to his negotiators.”The supreme leader of Iran was “expected” to deliver his response by Wednesday, Axios said. It added that Iranian negotiators “are waiting for a green light” from the supreme leader, and that in the meantime, there has been dissension from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders.
