Marco Rubio Lights Up Social Media for Wearing ‘Maduro Tracksuit’ on Air Force One

Secretary of State Marco Rubio ignited a wave of laughter and memes on social media after he was seen wearing a “Maduro tracksuit” on Air Force One. The White House director of communications, Steven Cheung, shared a picture of Mr. Rubio dressed in a gray Nike tracksuit, with the caption, “Secretary Rubio rocking the Nike Tech ‘Venezuela’ on Air Force One!”The deputy White House communications director, Kaelan Dorr, shared the post and wrote, “Secretary of State brutally frame mogs dictator.”Some social media users questioned the casual attire on board Air Force One. But many got a kick out of the similarity to the outfit Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro was seen wearing after he was captured by American forces in January. “Rubio is wearing the Maduro tracksuit on his flight to China,” one user wrote on X.A conservative commentator, Eric Daugherty, wrote, “Sec. Marco Rubio was just spotted wearing the Nicolas Maduro ‘Nike Tech’ aboard Air Force One, en route to China with President Trump. Just like Maduro wore when 47 captured him… We love Marco.”“Rubio wearing the Maduro capture fit to negotiate with China tops every psyop ever conducted through athleisure,” another user said. Other users had fun with AI and had it make videos of Mr. Rubio dancing in a tracksuit. Another user shared an AI-generated image of Mr. Rubio standing behind a DJ booth and wrote, “Is Marco going to be the DJ for the flight?”The picture comes as President Trump and other administration officials are in China for a high-stakes summit with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, that is expected to focus on trade and the Iran war. While social media users in America found the image of Mr. Rubio hilarious, social media platforms in China were filled with messages criticizing the outfit. One user wrote, “Rubio deliberately boarded Air Force One in the same outfit Maduro wore when he was kidnapped by U.S. forces—it’s filled with hostility.”
