* A day before the final debate in Tempe Ariz., President Bush spoke at an invitation-only rally in Colorado Springs, Colo., repeatedly telling supporters that Senator Kerry “can run but he cannot hide,” in a speech that ridiculed the Democratic candidate’s policy on Iraq, his tax plan, and his health-care plan. Vice President Cheney, campaigning in Iowa, said ousting Saddam Hussein removed the threat of a nexus between terrorists and weapons of mass destruction.

* Mr. Kerry spent yesterday at a Santa Fe, N.M., hotel, getting ready for tonight’s debate. He took a break in the afternoon for a bike ride. Senator Edwards campaigned in Commerce City, Colo., focusing on economic issues and urging voters to “outsource” Mr. Bush. He took heat from Republicans after saying Monday that “if we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.”

WHERE THEY ARE TODAY

* The candidates will meet for their final 90-minute debate today, set for 9 p.m. at Arizona State University and moderated by CBS’s Bob Schieffer. The focus of the debate will be on domestic issues.

POLLS

* A Washington Post national poll released yesterday had Mr. Bush leading Mr. Kerry 50% to 47%, narrowing from a 6-percentage point lead the day before. A Reuters/Zogby poll showed the candidates tied at 45%.
