The celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is facing a multimillion-dollar law suit amid allegations that he faked scenes in a new television show. Mr. Ramsay, the holder of three Michelin stars, has also been accused of ruining reputations in an American reality show in which he tries to turn around failing restaurants.

A former Manhattan restaurant manager says Mr. Ramsay lied about finding rotten meat and hired actors to make the establishment appear more popular as a result of his week-long visit.

Martin Hyde, the former general manager of Dillons restaurant in New York’s Theatre District, says the notoriously foul-mouthed Mr. Ramsay unfairly targeted him over the state of the kitchen so the confrontation could be filmed.

Mr. Hyde is suing Mr. Ramsay for millions of dollars, claiming that his exaggerations about the state of the restaurant will destroy its reputation and that of its staff.

He has asked a judge to block transmission of the show by the broadcaster Fox in the forthcoming series of Mr. Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, an American version of a series that proved popular on Channel 4 in Britain.

According to the lawsuit, Mr. Ramsay filmed at Dillons, an American-Indian restaurant, in April. Mr. Hyde said he was blamed for the way the kitchen was run even though as general manager he had no control over it. He claimed he was humiliated and forced to quit to avoid further abuse. Dillons’s owner, Muhammad Islam, refused to comment on the legal action but said the restaurant had improved since Mr. Ramsay’s visit.
