GLENDALE, Calif. — Glendale police confiscated $10 million worth of marijuana from a sophisticated outdoor growing operation in the Verdugo Mountains that tapped into a city water tank used by residents and designated for emergency use during brush fires, authorities said yesterday.

Narcotics officers confiscated at least 5,000 plants on more than an acre in ravines above Crescenta Valley Park, Officer John Balian said. There have been no arrests, and police have no leads. Authorities said the pot farmers used a drip irrigation system with pipes that tapped directly into a 10,000-gallon cistern used by the Glendale Fire Department. Police and fire officials said half the water had been drained from the tank.
