Albany Could Trash City’s Garbage Removal Plan

The city’s new plan to make garbage removal more environmentally friendly could be trashed if Albany doesn’t give permission to re-activate a recycling facility on Manhattan’s West Side, Mayor Bloomberg warned yesterday. Mr. Bloomberg has touted his plan as a way to end decades of alleged environmental injustice by making every borough deal with its own garbage. Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat of Upper Manhattan plans to introduce a bill next week to get city approval. Assemblywoman Deborah Glick and others have vowed to block it, saying the plan is illegal because the site has been designated for parkland.
