WASHINGTON — M a y o r Bloomberg says he wants to travel the state when he leaves City Hall, but his plans don’t include kissing babies and trolling for votes.
“One of the things I’d love to do is spend some time traveling the state. There are some wonderful places all throughout this state,” Mr. Bloomberg told reporters here yesterday, when asked about his post-mayoral ambitions.
He recalled that as a Boy Scout, he used to spend a lot of time outdoors. “I’d love to do that again, but as a candidate for governor,” he said. “I’d love to do it as a tourist.” The mayor also dismissed the idea of trying to overturn term limits in New York City and run for re-election. “The truth of the matter is, I’ve said a number of times I favor term limits and I’m looking forward to being mayor on December 31, ’09, and then doing something else,” he said. Pressed if he was definitively ruling it out, he replied: “I’m not seeking a third term. Correct.”
Mr. Bloomberg has said repeatedly that he plans to run his foundation after he leaves office, but he appeared less certain yesterday. He will celebrate his mother’s 101st birthday and play some golf in 2010, he said, “and then I have absolutely no idea.” “I’ll probably wind up in philanthropy,” he added.
