City Solon Funds Bodega Cameras To Stem Crime

A Queens assemblyman is attempting to buck armed robbers who terrorize bodega owners in his district by installing a cluster of surveillance cameras inside local businesses.
Jose Peralta, who represents the Corona section of Queens, presented a $250,000 check yesterday to the Bodega Association of the United States that will pay for about 200 security cameras for local business owners in the district.
The payout, which is about half of the capital funding that the assemblyman was appropriated by the state government this year, will introduce the “Operation Safe Store” initiative into Queens. The camera initiative has greatly cut down on bodega robberies in Manhattan and the Bronx since it was implemented last year, the association said.
