A city detective was indicted yesterday on 12 counts of perjury for lying about his interrogation of a teenage suspect in a 2005 shooting incident in a Bronx elevator, officials said.
Detective Christopher Perino allegedly perjured himself while being questioned by the suspect’s attorney and an assistant district attorney, when he lied about the period of time he had questioned the suspect regarding the shooting.
The suspect, Erik Crespo, who was 17 at the time, was charged with attempted murder.
Crespo recorded the interrogation on his mp3 player, which was used to contradict the testimony of Mr. Perino, who could be punished for a maximum of seven years for each count, officials said.
