ELLE Offices Evacuated Because of Fire

The corporate offices of Hachette Filipacchi Media, the owner of ELLE magazine, in Midtown Manhattan were evacuated this afternoon after a fire broke out in an elevator.
Fire department officials said the fire was caused by rubbish in a freight elevator on the 45th Floor of the Paramount Plaza building at 1633 Broadway. The fire started at about 1:52 p.m. and was under control in about an hour.
Three floors of the building were evacuated, according to a spokeswoman for Hachette Filipacchi, including the company’s corporate offices on the 45th floor and the offices of ELLE magazine, which are located on the 44th Floor.
