A Brooklyn baby died yesterday after being bitten in the head by a family dog at his home in the Kensington neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The baby, Andrew Stein, who was eight months old, was being watched by his grandmother in the boy’s home, an apartment building at 71 Ocean Parkway.
The baby was lying on a couch in his apartment at about 2 p.m. yesterday when the 7-year-old Doberman Pinscher lunged at him, according to police.
They said the attack may have been provoked by the baby touching the dog’s paw.
An ambulance was called and the baby was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead an hour later, at 3 p.m. Police said the dog’s teeth punctured the baby’s skull.
The dog had been with the family since it was a puppy, police said. It was removed by Animal Care and Control of New York City.
Police said they were investigating the incident and said the medical examiner would release the official cause of death.
