EAST MEADOW — Long Island authorities say a bank robbery suspect has been caught. But the Nassau University Medical Center and all nine schools in the East Meadow School District remain on lockdown as police search for a second suspect.
The robbery took place at about 9 a.m. today at a Bank of America, and the suspects fled north to the area surrounding the 19-story medical center.
Police say one suspect was captured hiding under a car in the hospital’s underground parking garage. The second suspect, who may be walking with a limp, is still being sought.
Hospital employees arriving for work were escorted by police into the building.
A school district statement says all schools in the area have been locked down, but stresses that the children are safe. The district discouraged parents from going to the schools, but canceled afternoon kindergarten.
