A man being treated for depression killed himself after shooting his 17-year-old son in the family’s Queens home, police said.

At 9:25 a.m. yesterday, Angelina Low, 55, saw her husband Mark Low, 61, armed with a shotgun, entering their son Wesley’s bedroom on the second floor of the family’s house on Browvale Lane. The man was reportedly taking psychiatric medication to treat depression. Mrs. Low tried to wrestle the gun out of Low’s hands and the gun inadvertently went off, with one bullet striking Wesley in the left shoulder. Mrs. Low managed to yank the weapon away and tossed it down a flight of stairs. Low raced to a closet, and pulled out a .22-caliber rifle.

Again he and Mrs. Low got into a tussle over the gun and one round was dislodged into a wall in the master bedroom, the authorities said. Mrs. Low took the rifle away from her husband, throwing the weapon down the stairs. Low ran to the first floor, police said, picked up one of the guns, though it was not immediately clear which one, and fired one shot, striking himself in the head, police said. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. As for the son’s wound, the bullet severed a major artery, but police said the teenager was in stable condition at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. When police went to the scene, they found other guns in the house, the authorities said.
