A postal worker shot two men on the first floor of his upper Manhattan apartment building early yesterday morning before retreating upstairs to his own apartment and turning the gun on himself, police officials said.
Roberto Caballero, 48, who for 24 years was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, shot one victim three times in the chest and another once in the head after an argument broke out at about 6 a.m. at the building on 130th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, police said. When police arrived at the scene, they found the two victims in the hallway of the apartment building before hearing a shot ring out from an upper floor.
Caballero was later found dead inside his apartment with a gunshot wound to his head, police said.
Both of Caballero’s victims were removed to area hospitals in critical condition, police said.
