Police are searching for a gunman who barged into the emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital, shot and critically wounded a taxi cab driver, and then kidnapped his own estranged wife just days after he was served with an order of protection, according to police and law enforcement sources.
Miguel Carrasquillo is accused of shooting the cab driver at 8 a.m. on Saturday and kidnapping his wife, Nancy Carrasquillo, at gunpoint, police said.
Mr. Carrasquillo was served with an order of protection on Friday and was required to leave their home, which is located near the hospital, according to a law enforcement source.
Mrs. Carrasquillo, a clerical associate at the hospital and the mother of four children, requested the order of protection because her unemployed husband had recently harassed her, the source said.
The Carrasquillos were last seen entering a subway station at Grand Avenue and Queens Boulevard, police said.
