A funeral for a 31-year-old police officer killed by a suspected drunk driver earlier this week will be held today in Hamilton Heights.
Yesterday, mourners gathered at an open casket wake to honor Officer Alexander Felix. The funeral home was filled with hundreds of friends and relatives, including Felix’s girlfriend, who is eight months pregnant with their first child.
Dozens of flower arrangements, made into the shapes of hearts, surrounded the casket, along with the American flag and a crucifix. Amid loud sobs echoing throughout the lobby, friends and relatives discussed Felix’s “contagious smile.”
A close friend, Christopher Maracio, 27, said Felix couldn’t stand to see anyone frown.
“He was a great friend … someone you could always count on to lift you up,” Mr. Maracio said.
