PATAKI EXPECTED TO STAY IN HOSPITAL THROUGH TODAY
Governor Pataki, being fed intravenously, was expected to remain in the hospital at least through today, his doctor said yesterday. “Things have not changed much,” the senior attending surgeon, Dr. Wiji Ratnathicam, said five days after Mr. Pataki’s surgery to remove his appendix. Most people leave the hospital after a couple of days, he said. Mr. Pataki’s intestines aren’t functioning, and he is being given water and nutrients intravenously to keep them “at rest” for now, Dr. Ratnathicam said.

WOMAN KILLED BY CITY BUS ON EAST SIDE
A 53-year-old woman was struck and killed by a city bus yesterday. The woman, whose name was not released, was crossing 86th Street near Third Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and was standing on a double yellow line when she was hit by a westbound bus at about 11 a.m., police said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges were filed.

PATIENT WITH LEGIONNAIRES’ DISEASE DIES
ROCHESTER – One of two people who contracted Legionnaires’ disease at Strong Memorial Hospital has died. The patient died late Sunday after being removed from life support, hospital officials said. Legionnaires’ – a type of pneumonia – contributed to the person’s death, doctors said. The patient also had liver disease. Strong released no other details about the patient. Hospital officials found the bacteria legionella in Strong’s water system February 13, after a first patient contracted Legionnaires’ disease while in the hospital. That patient, who is battling advanced cancer, is in guarded condition at the hospital.

MOUNTED OFFICER, HORSE HURT IN MANHATTAN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
A mounted police officer and his horse were hurt yesterday when the horse ran into traffic at a busy intersection. The officer was hospitalized in stable condition after the 5 p.m. accident, a police spokesman, Michael Levoff, said. The extent of the horse’s injuries was not immediately known. A woman who lives in a building on the corner where the accident took place said she saw the horse heading east on 24th Street in a “full gallop” before running through a red light into oncoming traffic on Ninth Avenue. Kathleen McCarthy said she saw the officer and horse on the ground. She said the horse, which was able to get up, had blood coming from its nose.

MAN ACCUSED OF INSTALLING CAMERAS IN BATHROOMS TO BE ARRAIGNED
A Staten Island man accused of installing video cameras inside the women’s bathrooms at two Brooklyn high schools is scheduled to be arraigned today in Kings County Court. Michael Conte, 46, faces charges of second-degree unlawful surveillance. Mr. Conte was arrested January 24 after a Long Island woman found a surveillance camera in her home that the handyman had installed. Mr. Conte allegedly placed similar cameras in the girls’ locker room at Brooklyn Technical High School and in the faculty locker room at George Westinghouse High School.
