A 1-year-old boy was killed when his mother dropped him beneath her sports utility vehicle as she tried to stop it from rolling backward, police officials said.
The woman, who wasn’t identified, got out of her car at about at 2:29 p.m. in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, but the car started rolling backwards because the breaks weren’t properly engaged, police said.
Her son, Christopher Mercedes, was struck by the wheels of the car. He was brought to Jacobi Hospital where he died, police said.
The woman’s husband died last year while serving in the Iraq war.
