New York City police say a burglary suspect has died while in custody before charges were able to be filed against him.
Lieutenant John Gimpel says the suspect was arrested after officers responded to a 911 call at 1 p.m. yesterday of a burglary in progress at a Bronx building.
The officers were then directed to a nearby building where the suspect was found and was arrested.
Police say that before the suspect could be taken to a local precinct for charged to be filed, he became unresponsive and unconscious.
Lieutenant Gimpel says the suspect was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.
A city medical examiner is expected to determine the cause of death.
