The city’s police department is monitoring out-of-state fireworks dealers, a police spokesman, Paul Browne, said yesterday.

Police seize the car of anyone caught entering New York City with illegal fireworks, Mr. Browne said. The department has seized 26 vehicles and 850 cases of fireworks in recent weeks.

Mayor Bloomberg recently said vigorous enforcement has led to fewer illegal fireworks entering the city this year.
