Pope’s Three-Day New York Itinerary Is Released

Pope Benedict XVI will address the United Nations, pray at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, visit disabled children in Yonkers, and make stops at ground zero and Yankee Stadium during his visit to New York City in April, according to a detailed itinerary publicized yesterday.
The pope is scheduled to arrive on April 16 for his first papal visit to the United States, with a first stop in Washington, D.C., to meet with President Bush and his wife, Laura.
On April 18, the pope will take an early morning flight to New York. At 10:45 a.m., he will address the United Nations, and at 6 p.m., he will hold a prayer service St. Joseph’s Church in Manhattan.
On the pope’s second day in New York, April 19, he will hold a 9:15 a.m. mass for priests and deacons at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. Later in the afternoon, he will meet with Catholic youth, including 50 disabled children, at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers.
During his final day in New York, April 20, the pope is scheduled to visit ground zero at 9:30 a.m. That afternoon, he will conclude his visit by leading mass at Yankee Stadium for 60,000 people at 2:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., he will fly to Rome, leaving New York from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
