A Queens man was charged with depraved assault yesterday for nearly killing his baby, the Queens district attorney, Richard Brown, said in a statement.

Jianjin Ren, 31, allegedly shook his two-month-old baby so violently on December 16 that she is in critical condition with brain damage, Mr. Brown said.

While Mr. Ren’s wife, Shuqun Lin, was in the shower at about 10:00 p.m., he allegedly shook the baby repeatedly in order to make her stop crying, Mr. Brown said. If convicted of first-degree assault and charges of endangering the welfare of a child, Mr. Ren faces up to 25 years in prison, Mr. Brown said. He is being held without bail, Mr. Brown said.
