Silverstein Lashes Out Against WTC Insurers

The developer of the World Trade Center site lashed out against two insurers at their doorstep yesterday, denouncing the companies outside the Midtown Hilton New York, where the insurance industry is holding a conference. The failure by insurers Allianz and Royal and Sun Alliance to pay $800 million from claims related to the attacks of September 11, 2001 could hold up construction, developer Larry Silverstein said at a rally of construction workers and public officials. The specific amount of damages owed is still being worked out, and the insurers have raised concerns with an agreement to split payments between Mr. Silverstein and the Port Authority, which are each funding buildings at ground zero.
