ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – Attorney General Spitzer has docked the pay of his campaign manager following the staffer’s arrest on a drunken driving charge after an accident last month, a Spitzer campaign spokeswoman said Monday.
The Democratic candidate for governor also said campaign manager Ryan Toohey, 31, won’t be part of a transition team should Mr. Spitzer win on Tuesday, campaign spokeswoman Christine Anderson said. Toohey will forfeit about $5,000 in pay, according to campaign finance records.
The campaign wouldn’t rule out a role for Mr. Toohey in any Spitzer administration.
Mr. Toohey was arrested on Oct. 22 on the Niagara Thruway near Buffalo after he collided with the rear of another car, police said. His car rolled over and police said he was speeding, according to Newsday, which first reported Mr. Spitzer’s action. No serious injuries were reported.
The campaign wouldn’t say how much Mr. Toohey is paid, but Mr. Spitzer’s campaign finance filings show Mr. Toohey was paid $13,460 from Sept. 29 to about Oct. 25 and he’s been with the campaign about a year.
Mr. Spitzer faces Republican-Conservative John Faso Tuesday.
