The Wall Street Journal announced today that it will launch a glossy monthly magazine next year that it will distribute with the Saturday edition of the newspaper.
The magazine, to be called “Pursuits,” marks the latest expansion of the Journal’s efforts to attract consumer advertising with coverage of leisure activities and lifestyle topics, following the launch of a Saturday edition of the paper two years ago.
The Journal had used the name Pursuits on a stand-alone lifestyles section distributed with the Saturday edition of the paper, but it stopped using that name this past weekend. That section is now called Weekend Journal, the same as another lifestyles section that appears on Fridays.
The Journal’s parent company, Dow Jones & Co., has agreed to be purchased by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. media conglomerate for $5 billion.
The Journal said in a statement today that it expects to launch the magazine in September 2008. It said Pursuits would be a magazine that “captures and intimate view of the world of wealth.”
