October 7 Hostage Fears Another Attack From Gaza

An Israeli who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 says he fears that another attack from Gaza could happen at any time.Gadi Moses, one of the 251 people who were kidnapped, said that residents in Kibbutz Nir Oz where he lives “live in constant fear,” of another invasion. On Wednesday Israel will mark three years since the attack with ceremonies taking place all over the country, including near the Gaza border where the massacre took place.“The problem today is that we have an army that is doing what it is doing in the Gaza Strip, but it ignores us as civilians living two meters from the border,” he told KAN public broadcaster. “It does not give us an account (of its actions), nor does it share with us what is happening. The state provides us with no assurance whatsoever that something like this cannot happen again,” Mr. Moses said. Mr. Moses, who was released from Gaza after 482 days in captivity in a deal between Hamas and Israel, added that he is “an invisible citizen, someone the prime minister does not address, does not understand what happened to me, and does not want to understand what happened to me.”“He just repeats all kinds of slogans. I am asking him to treat me as a citizen with equal rights in our country,” he added. Many but not all residents of the Gaza border communities that were attacked on October 7 have since returned to rebuild their homes. Israel’s military chief has said the army has a “duty” to investigate the security failures that enabled the October 7 massacre, which left some 1,200 people dead.IDF chief Eyal Zamir spoke at a ceremony at the Zikim Base near the Gaza border on Monday morning where the army’s General Staff Forum held a moment of silence. “Today, three years later, an entire nation bows its head and mourns. We remember the civilians who were murdered in their homes, the young women and men who went out to dance and did not return, those who were abducted and murdered in captivity, the combat troops and soldiers who fell, the members of the security forces, the community security and rescue teams, who went into the inferno and fell in battle,” Mr. Zamir said. “We will carry their stories with us and educate generations of commanders and troops in their light. It is our duty to investigate and ensure that the lessons are implemented, so that we may be more worthy of the trust the people have placed in us.”The IDF has conducted its own internal investigations into the failures that allowed the October 7 attack to happen, as well as the military’s conduct that day, but an independent state commission has yet to be established, with the government refusing to form one.Meanwhile in Gaza, the IDF continues to assassinate Hamas commanders and October 7 perpetrators on a daily basis. On Sunday, the army killed three operatives: Muad Gamal Abu Nuseira, a commander in Hamas’ military wing; Mahmoud Ibrahim Dib Alyan, a terrorist in Hamas’ observation unit; and Saqr Nabil Musa Qaisi, a member of Hamas’ elite Nukhba unit who infiltrated Israel on October 7 and served as the director of the Turkish organization Deniz Feneri, which the IDF said “presents itself as a humanitarian aid organization but in practice maintains ties with senior figures in the Hamas terrorist organization’s leadership and with elements within the Turkish leadership.”
